Why Great Companies Welcome Change
In all areas of life, change is inevitable. A few changes happen out of the blue, some we can predict, and others we institute ourselves. If they have the right attitude, leaders can utilize change as an opportunity to innovate and grow. According to Inc., there are certain ways companies can embrace change for the better. Some highlights include:
- Let Go of Expectations: As William Faulkner once said, “You have to learn to kill your darlings”. In relinquishing our “darlings”, we let go of that connection, and in doing as such, open ourselves up to an abundance of conceivable outcomes.
- Double Down: As Microsoft showed us with the Hololens, if something isn’t working, it means one of two things… you have to dispense with it totally, or double down. After limited success with the new technology, Microsoft ‘leaned in’ with a renewed focus on technology and innovation.
- Invest in an Adaptable Team: The best talent flourishes amidst change. If companies invest in talent that is flexible, versatile, and has grit, their teams will flourish in times of vulnerability and change.
But whether you’re a startup or a business magnate, change and risk represents a door of opportunity. For optimal growth, leaders must not be afraid to walk through that door.
